AboitizPower wants more electrical linemen in Mindanao

A Davao-based subsidiary company of the power provider AboitizPower has launched a training program for electrical lineman in order to solve the low number of qualified workers in the power industry in Mindanao.

Davao Light and Power Co. turned over the facility to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Davao Region (TESDA XI) in line with the training program dubbed as Basic Electrical Lineman’s Training Center in Mindanao (BELT.CoM)

“Project BELT.CoM or Basic Electrical Lineman Training Center of Mindanao is an illustration of a strong collaboration of the private and public sectors,” said Anton Mari Perdices of the AboitizPower Distribution Group during the turnover ceremony on Friday.

“The lineman’s training center is a venue to acquire and develop skills as a lineman, which will mean more and better employment opportunities that will create improved living conditions for their families,” Perdices added.

Percides said that part of the program is to improve the capacity of TESDA in Davao to conduct a training for power industry workers. It also aims to train more workers for overseas standards.

Aside from BELT.CoM program, Davao Light also partnered with the regional branch of Davao “for the refurbishment of its Electrical Installation and Maintenance laboratory.”

This, according to Perdices, aims to create a more conducive learning environment for electricians vying for the higher level NC III certification. /jpv
