GOINGS ON: #AyokoNgPlastik movement launched
Uniting under the call to end plastic pollution, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, together with Ayala Malls and other partner corporations, have officially launched the #AyokoNgPlastik movement.
With eight million tons of plastic ending up in oceans every year, the Philippines ranks as the world’s third plastic polluter of oceans.
The #AyokoNgPlastik movement hopes to address these alarming facts by bringing together companies, individuals, and other sectors to minimize and eventually put a stop to single-use plastics such as straws, bags, bottles, and cups. The movement is one of the major projects of WWF-Philippines this year.
Ayala Malls, one of the biggest shopping mall developers in the Philippines, has also expressed support for the movement.
Conference on urban water management set
In 2019, the search for solutions to water efficiency is coming to Manila.
The International Water Association (IWA)—the global network that is shaping the future of the water sector—will stage the 10th Specialist Conference on Efficient Urban Water Management on Jan. 13-16, 2019 at Marriott Grand Ballroom, Resorts World, Pasay City.
The conference dubbed “Efficient 2019” will bring together the world’s leading experts, thought leaders and practitioners to tackle the challenges of efficient urban water management.
Efficient 2019 is jointly hosted by industry leaders Maynilad Water Services, Inc. and Metro Pacific Water, and supported by the Asian Development Bank and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The summit comes at a time when utilities are shifting toward a more human-centered service delivery perspective: focusing on outcomes such as human well-being and environmental health that therefore gives rise to creative ways of solving urban water problems that also involve decentralized, nature-based solutions.
