Top of the Alpha by Louie Y is emerging to be Makati’s newest night spot. My family and I were treated to a “sneak preview” of the Top of the Alpha by Louie Y a few days ago, and I have to say that it is fabulous. Louie Ysmael, the country’s everlasting nightlife impresario, and Alphaland’s head of design Rico Sison have really outdone themselves this time.

The Top of the Alpha by Louie Y will be officially launched on Oct. 17, with Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay as its guest of honor.

I have been to many night spots all around the world, but I must say I have never seen anything like TOA before. Located on the top floor of the Alphaland Corporate Tower, it has its own private lobby entrance. A private elevator zips you up in a few seconds to the 34th floor Penthouse. With ever-changing jazz bands featured nightly, and an outdoor smoking “Bird’s Nest” with fabulous views of Makati, TOA is truly unbeatable.

Apart from top local artists, Louie Y told me that he also plans to import talents from around the world, including several famous Brazilian jazz bands.

Though not a membership club, Balesin and City Club members are automatically welcomed with a drinks list personally selected by Louie Y and a pica-pica menu with Alphaland executive chef Mark Biddle’s favorites. We were treated to a wonderful porcini mushroom soup, Caesar’s salad and wagyu ribeye, as well as crème brulée for dessert, and it was delicious. The TOA promises to be the place for pre- or post-dinner cocktails.

Occupying the entire Penthouse floor, the TOA’s walls are lined with pictures of the world’s greatest jazz artists, and all the premium liquor brands.

A Tabacalera Cigar Divan is one of the highlights of the TOA. There are three private rooms reserved for selected friends of Louie Y, if you want some privacy. Otherwise, the extensive lounge and wraparound outdoor seating area can accommodate as many as 150 guests.
