Firm tapped to monitor Grab compliance

The country’s antitrust body appointed an international firm to track and audit Grab Philippines, a move which would see if Grab is indeed committing to its agreement with the government to preserve market competition.

In a statement on Wednesday, PCC said Smith & Williamson, which has handled high profile competition cases abroad, has been selected as the independent third party monitor trustee that would keep Grab’s promises in check.

Grab’s next steps would now be carefully watched, especially since it got past PCC’s probing eye by agreeing to make certain changes in its operations, such as in pricing, acceptance and cancellation rates, and incentives, among others.

The monitoring will be for year and reported quarterly. —ROY STEPHEN C. CANIVEL
