Epson PH targets 19% growth in sales this year

Epson Philippines expects to grow its sales by 19 percent this year as the market demand for its printers and projectors remains strong, according to a top official.

Eduardo Bonoan, director of Epson Philippines’ marketing division, told reporters last week the company was still the market leader for both printer and projector segments.

“We’ve been accepted as market leader for both these segments. Coupled with the strong economy and the growing business segment, [the goal of] 19 percent is not much of a problem,” he said.

He said the company has seen a double-digit growth of 27 percent to 29 percent in sales yearly since 2012.

“So the 19 percent is already a little bit on the low side, although if you compare it with other companies’ growth, it’s still looked at as phenomenal,” he added.

He said one out of two printers in the market was an Epson. The same can be said for projectors, he added.

He noted there has been a shift in the printer market, with establishments such as schools and government offices now accounting for a larger share of sales volume. Households used to drive demand.

“We’ve somehow hit a sweet spot with regard to an inkjet product that institutions could rely on. Before, there was a stigma [because] of the high cost of inks,” he said.

“But now I think we’ve debunked that already,” noting how their products have become more cost-efficient.
