SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE – The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority is bidding out six projects under a state-funded P10.2-billion six-year infrastructure development program and are set for completion in 2023, said lawyer Wilma Eisma, SBMA chair and administrator on Thursday (August 23).
Among these projects are the development of its seaport and airport, the widening and extension of roads, and the construction of an SBMA Corporate Center.
SBMA will implement the development program in phases, spending P524.5 million in 2019; P573.1 million in 2020; P1.32 billion in 2021; P2.35 billion in 2022; and P1.4 billion in 2023.
Eisma said this would be the first time SBMA would avail of national funding for infrastructure projects.
“But we feel justified not only because of the scope but also because we’d like to think that these projects are investments on the part of the government,” Eisma said.
“These projects are necessary for Subic to sustain its position as one of the biggest revenue contributors among the investment promotions agencies in the country today,” she added.
Other projects being undertaken this year are road rehabilitation work, Phase 2 of the Naval Supply Depot road network project, the installation of navigational and new traffic control systems, the repair of the El Kabayo Road, and the drainage improvement at the Argonaut Highway.
