Wonder walls
If your walls could talk, what would they say?
They would probably tell you that they are the most overlooked part of the house.
When decorating our living spaces, whether it’s a single-detached house or a small apartment, we’re usually more focused on what decor to put on our floors, shelves and tables.
We often leave our walls bare, or at least settle for the good old mirror, blown-up photographs or large-scale art. There are, however, more fun and interesting ways to adorn walls which will, in turn, give more life and cheer to our living spaces.
For the living room

Stationery and gift shop Typo has wooden letters and small marquee letter lights which you can also put on your home’s accent wall.
Art supplies shop Hey Kessy (heykessy.com) has 3D letters which are made out of sturdy board and craft paper as well. If you are on a budget, head to Divisoria where you can purchase papier-mâché letters you can paint and design yourself.
Give your front door an added appeal—and also, make it easy for visiting family and friends to find your home—by putting up a large wrought iron monogram of your initials. Check out local wrought iron manufacturers, artsteel.asia and ondamarketing.ph if you want custom-made wall decor for your home.
For the kids’ room
Take your child to outer space, under the sea, the jungle or fairyland every time he or she enters the room with the use of wall decals. Online shops such as Lazada and instagram.com/caitlynblaircollection offer a wide selection of decals that you can choose from. If you want something more permanent, make a mural with the help of stencils. Scour your local hardware and home decor stores, art supply and book shops for templates.
For the kitchen
Your kitchen wall decor can be something useful and practical as well. Install a chalkboard or a glass writing board for your reminders, grocery list or little notes of inspiration to get you through the day.
If you don’t have space to hang a board, use chalkboard paint to turn a kitchen cabinet’s door into one. DIY supplies shop The Craft Central offers chalkboard paint in various colors: gray, brown, blue, green, teal, and even pink.
Worried about chalkboard dust getting into your food? You can choose to get liquid chalk markers from school supplies stores like National Book Store.
