Petron backs gov’t program for PUJ sector

Three out of every 10 filling stations of Petron Corp. across the country are accepting payments through cash cards that the government issued to drivers and operators of public utility jeepneys (PUJ).

Petron said the move showed that it was “strongly support[ing] government efforts to help the PUJ sector.

Out of about 2,400 Petron stations nationwide, 740 service stations are accepting the Pantawid Pasada Card—a cash transfer program—issued by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to drivers and operators of about 180,000 jeepneys with franchises from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The Pantawid Pasada Program also involves the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Finance, Department of Budget and Management and Landbank of the Philippines.

According to the DOE, the Pantawid Pasada cash transfer will be done in two yearly installments starting with P5,000 per jeepney covering the latter half of 2018. This means a monthly subsidy of P833.33 per vehicle.
