Google: ‘It takes a village to raise a start-up’

One of the oft-quoted African proverbs about education is “it takes a village to raise a child,” meaning that all the people in the community somehow play a role in rearing the child.

For its part, Start-up Village, a business incubator powered by Google Developers Launchpad, believes “it takes a village to raise a [business] start-up.”

Google Developers Launchpad is a branch of Google that operates a global acceleration program that helps startups grow.

Startup Village helps startups bring their unique business concepts into reality by linking them with prominent “accelerators” or those who support businesses by providing advice and support.

Kevin O’Toole, Google Launchpad’s Head of International Growth, said the team-up is about “empowering startup ecosystems” around the globe.

“The Powered by Google Developers Launchpad program is about empowering startup ecosystems around the world through top accelerators, and helping them leverage each other for insights and resource sharing,” O’Toole said in a statement.

Jay Bernardo, Founder and Chairman of StartUp Village, encourages the public to support the partnership.

“We at StartUp Village are so delighted to be powered by Google Developers Launchpad. Together, we’ll provide the road to Silicon Valley and the world. We will encourage and support Filipino entrepreneurs to think bigger and become global and provide the spark needed by the Philippine startup ecosystem,” he said.
