The PayMaya mobile wallet, backed by a unit of PLDT Inc., announced a tie-up with drugstore chain Rose Pharmacy, the latest in an aggressive effort to roll out its QR payments platform.
PayMaya said customers would be able to use the PayMaya mobile app’s scan feature to pay 130 Rose Pharmacy branches, initially. More stores would be added in the coming months.
“The retail landscape here and abroad is changing very fast, which is why we laud retailers like Rose Pharmacy in their efforts to keep up with these changes in service of their customers,” Orlando B. Vea, president and CEO of PayMaya Philippines, said in a statement.
Rose Pharmacy was established in Cebu City in 1952. It has 250 branches in the country.
“Improving our in-store customer experience is a top priority for Rose Pharmacy, and this partnership with PLDT and PayMaya contributes to our commitment to bring our customers the benefits and advantages of new technologies,” Charlie Bettencourt, CEO at Rose Pharmacy, said in the same statement.
PayMaya’s QR-based payment system has been launched in major retail outlets.
Users can transfer money to their PayMaya accounts using over 20,000 touchpoints, including Smart Padala centers, 7-Eleven outlets, Touchpay kiosks, UnionBank ATMs, Shopwise and 2Go. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
