Doing business in Ormoc City

/ 05:01 AM February 26, 2018

We recently visited Ormoc City, Leyte, to give a talk on multigeneration workforce management, and were struck by how beautiful and clean and progressive the city was. We were intrigued enough to try to find out how to do business there, and justify another trip. We asked our partner, Maricel Ngo, of BeMore-MRN Training and Consultancy, for some tips on doing business in first class independent cities such as Ormoc.

1. Take note of high potential business opportunities, such as: High value agro-industrial, housing, creative industries, and knowledge-based services

2. Join the local chamber, such as the Ormoc City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Orcham). Orcham is a partner of the LGU in the promotion and development of business in Ormoc City. By joining the chamber, you get access to the government’s projects and resources to support your business. Orcham also offers training suitable for SMEs. You also get to grow your network and gain potential customers.

3. Support local products. The city encourages current and future investors to patronize local producers in line with the inclusive growth campaign of the government.

4. Be a law abiding entrepreneur. Register your business and comply with all government requirements in setting up a business. You may be surprised to know that Ormoc, for example, has a very efficient business and licensing office. They were recently conferred a Blue Certification from the Office of the Ombudsman-Region VIII. It is the thrust of the local government to make Ormoc a business-friendly city, with red-tape free processes in the issuance of business permits and licenses.

5. Promote your business through billboards and streamers, but mounted only in designated places. Don’t worry as these spots have high foot traffic so visibility is not an issue. Do note that the city is attuned with environmental protection programs as evidenced by its being a consistent “Cleanest and Greenest City” awardee in Region VIII.

Inquirer Academy has teamed up with BeMore-MRN Training and Consultancy, and will offer a course on “Creating Customers that Stay: How to build lasting relationships with your customers” on April 25, 2018 in Ormoc City. Another upcoming course is “Fundamentals of Project Management” on May 25.
