Mercury Drug, the country’s biggest pharmacy, is transitioning to the digital age with a cashless option.
PLDT’s digital wallet Paymaya recently sealed a partnership with the drugstore chain, allowing the use of its scan to pay QR platform, a statement showed.
Mercury Drug, established in the post-World War II era in 1945, is the first pharmacy-retail chain in the Philippines to begin accepting payment for medicines and other consumer goods via PayMaya QR.
“This will also cut down the lines in our stores because there is no need to process loose change anymore,” said Steven Que Azcona, Mercury Drug Corp. assistant to the president.
Paymaya has been aggressively rolling out its QR payment platform, tapping in recent months a string of retail establishments, fast food companies and even sari-sari stores.
“With our collaboration with Mercury Drug, one of the leading drugstore chains in the country, we are poised to accelerate the adoption of cashless payments in the country,” Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT chair and CEO, said in the statement.
