The P151-million rehabilitation of the 46-kilometer Mobo-Aroroy 69 kV transmission line in Masbate has been completed after years of delay, the National Power Corp. (Napocor) said on Thursday.
“The rehabilitation project allowed the replacement of old wooden poles with concrete and steel to make the transmission line more resilient against typhoon and other disasters,” said Napocor President and CEO Pio J. Benavidez in a statement.
Napocor said residents of Masbate can now expect a better power dispatch and supply with the completion of the transmission line project.
Napocor also said that it has also completed the construction of the 3.17-km extension project of the said transmission line.
“The extension project connected the transmission line to Masbate Electric Cooperative’s (Maselco) 5MVA substation in Barangay Bangon, Aroroy,” it said.
Funds from the project were sourced from the national government’s Special Allotment Release Order in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
Napocor said “the projects will help reduce power outages and systems losses of Maselco that services 71,000 households in the island province.”
“The energization of the transmission is a breakthrough as it has been stalled for long years due to right-of-way issues,” Benavidez said. /jpv
