Engineering firm Fluor Daniel Inc. Philippines yesterday said it won a contract to build a floating oil production storage and offloading vessel in the North Sea for oil giant Shell.
The contract, with its value undisclosed, is for the engineering, procurement and fabrication of the vessel, which is expected to help extend the life of Shell’s Penguins oil and gas fields.
Fluor Philippines, based in Manila, is a unit of Texas-based Fluor Corp.
The company said the vessel would have a capacity of 45,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, and could store up to 400,000 barrels.
Jim Brittain, president of Fluor’s energy and chemicals business, said in a statement the project would be led by Fluor Philippines, following the company’s “successful delivery of the Malampaya Phase 3 project here.
Brittain said the awarding of the contract to Fluor showed the company’s ability to design, fabricate and deliver “high-quality, capital-efficient offshore facilities globally.”
According to Ken Choudhary, president of Fluor’s energy and chemicals business in the Asia-Pacific region, the Malampaya project was recognized with Fluor’s “highest award for excellence in execution and demonstrated a great focus on safety, quality and delivery.” —RONNEL W. DOMINGO
