PLDT setting up data disaster recovery facility in Clark

PLDT Inc. is building its first data disaster recovery facility in the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, the telco said in a statement yesterday.

PLDT said the facility, which would open in the third quarter of 2018, would provide backup operations for its data center in the same region.

PLDT chief revenue officer Eric Alberto said in the statement that the facility would ensure that business would continue “even when the unfortunate happens.”

“Disasters prompt the discussions on security and backup,” he said.

“In this digital world, disasters are not a question of ’if’ but a question of ’when.’ We, at PLDT and ePLDT, are your partners in protecting the enterprise’s most important resource—data—in the midst of heightening technologies,” he added.

Jovy Hernandez, PLDT senior vice president and head of its enterprise business unit, also cited the need for resiliency in their data center business.

“PLDT’s technology initiatives will help foster the continuous economic growth of Clark by making world-class facilities readily available to their locators,” Hernandez said.

PLDT maintains nine data centers, two of which—Vitro Makati and Vitro Clark, have obtained the ANSI/TIA-942 Rated 3 Design Certificate.

The guidelines set by ANSI/TIA-942 include the redundancy design of the data centers to ensure the highest availability during unplanned maintenance and infrastructure expansion.
