Maynilad Water Services Inc. has earmarked over P10 billion for the installation of a total of 183.6 kilometers of sewer lines within the next five years.

“Maynilad knows the utmost importance of maintaining the health of communities and the environment through proper wastewater management,” Maynilad president and chief executive
Ramoncito S. Fernandez said in a statement.

“The installation of these new conveyance systems is part of our commitment to expand sewerage services to the entire West concession area,” Fernandez said.

The new sewer lines will be laid in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa—particularly in Barangay Poblacion—as well as in the town of Kawit in Cavite.

Fernandez said this investment would enable Maynilad to catch 320 million liters of wastewater daily, generated by some 2 million customers in the area, and convey it to sewage treatment plants for treatment.

He said the project was tipped for kickoff in the second semester of 2018, with expected completion in 2022.

The planned new sewer lines would add to the ones that Maynilad was laying in Valenzuela, Parañaque City and Muntinlupa City—particularly in the barangays of Cupang and Tunasan.

According to Maynilad, it has already built 18 wastewater treatment facilities over the past 10 years, enabling the company to treat some 502 million liters of wastewater daily as of September 2017.

In another development, International Data Corp. recently gave Maynilad the “Digital Transformer of the Year” award at the inaugural IDC Digital Transformation Awards held in Taguig City.

Maynilad was recognized for the successful integration of its information technology and operational technology systems, “resulting in dramatic transformation and improvement in water and wastewater operations.”

With this, Maynilad will represent the Philippines in the upcoming IDC Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Awards in Singapore.

It will be vying for the “Digital Transformer of the Year” title against 12 other companies from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
