Launching Project Purpose Philippines

11:10 AM October 26, 2017

You have heard it said: You are not an accident; you were made for a purpose. The question is, do you know what it is you live for? Knowing your purpose with clarity determines your impact in the world.

People who live according to a purpose are people on a mission. A purpose statement identifies the mission for which God has created you and sets a course for your life. A purpose statement, together with your personal values, will guide your decisions and give you direction for your life journey. A clear purpose gives you the direction and energy to help create a better world in ways you uniquely can.

If you want to discover and develop your purpose, it’s time to discover Project Purpose. Project Purpose is an advocacy that aims to help young leaders, executives, public servants and social entrepreneurs find their true purpose, unlocking their potential for change and social good. Project Purpose Philippines is founded by Boris Joaquin, a masterful speaker, trainer and executive coach. He is currently the president and chief equipping officer of Breakthrough Leadership Management Consultancy, Inc. He is also the country leader and master trainer of Lead Like Jesus Philippines and a registered Investors in People (UK) Specialist.

FEATURED STORIES

Whether facilitating a module on leadership, management, sales or customer service, Boris would always go back to the fundamental question, “Why are you doing what you’re doing?” This eventually leads to a session where participants draft their own mission statements. As an executive coach and a mentor in church, he helps individuals — whether mature executives or millennial CEOs in the making — design their lives around their purpose and make specific plans to deliver their promise to be the change they want to be in the world.

Boris recalled, “I was mentored well. My mentor (American missionary Robert Clark) led me to meet important influencers in my life, like Henry Blackaby (author of Experiencing God), Avery Willis, and later Ken Blanchard, bestselling author and co-founder of Lead Like Jesus. I was trained to craft my personal life purpose around what I am good at, what makes me alive and what world problem I’d like to address. I was very intentional in pursuing my life purpose so I eventually built a career in training and development. A few years back, when we were preparing to setup Saddleback South Manila here in the Philippines, where I served as one of its executive leaders, I had the opportunity to learn from Pastor Rick Warren, author of the bestselling book, The Purpose Driven Life, and his team at Saddleback Church in Southern California.”

Boris and his team (essentially his mentees and fellow trainers) aim to mentor young professionals and the youth across various sectors of society to help them discover and develop their life purpose, design their lives around it, and deliver their promise to a waiting and watching world.

Leaving a Legacy

“Life purposes should energize rather than mystify,” Boris says. “Think about this: If you lived according to your purpose, what would happen? What difference would you make in the world? How would people describe you? Whenever we are spurred on to think about our vision, we are often asked to think about how we would like others to remember us. What would you want written about you in your obituary? This may sound morbid, but it is effective. You need to be able to project the impact and contribution you would like to make in the world. That would be your legacy.”

Your legacy is the sum of the accomplishments for which you will be remembered. It reflects the impact you have had on this world. Will you be remembered for storing up treasures on earth or in heaven? Defining how you would like to be remembered after your death provides a compelling compass to guide your everyday decisions and actions.

Purpose is Powerful

When leading others, the ability to motivate people is, in itself, not difficult. It is usually tied to some external factor like giving prizes or pressure. However, great leaders inspire people to act. Those who truly lead are able to create a following of people who act, not because they were swayed, but because they were inspired. Those who are able to inspire give people a sense of purpose or belonging that has little to do with any external incentive or benefit to be gained. But this influence first needs to begin within: great leaders need to personally have compelling purposes in their lives.

Regardless of what we do in our lives, our driving purpose, cause or belief – why we do what we do — never changes. What we do is simply the tangible way we find to breathe life into that cause. When your WHY is clear, those who share that belief will be drawn to it and maybe want to take part in bringing it to life. If that clear belief is amplified, it can have the power to rally even more believers to raise their hands and declare their commitment.

People whose personal life purpose is aligned with the purpose of their job would love going to work. They are more productive and creative. They go home happier and have happier families. They treat their colleagues and clients and customers better. Purpose-driven employees make for stronger companies and stronger economies.

Final Destination

Your destination is your purpose. That’s where you are going. It’s like traveling to a certain location. To get there, we have a variety of vehicle options — e.g. a bus or a bike – one taking us there faster or in multiple routes.  Most people mistake the vehicle they are in as their purpose in life. But sometimes, you need to get off and on certain vehicles to get to your destination.

Boris and his team would like to help you get there. For starters, check this out “How To Be Purpose Driven Millennials” the first video devotional in Asia on the largest Bible app in the world, created by Boris with one of his mentee, Renz Mansujeto, co-founder of Mentoring Moments Philippines
