Engineering and infrastructure group Megawide Construction Corp. has sealed its single largest private sector contract to date – a P14-billion contract to build mass housing developer 8990 Holdings’ township development in Ortigas.

Located along Ortigas Extension, Pasig City, the 13-hectare Urban Deca Homes Ortigas development will feature 24 residential buildings with a total of 18,993 units and a shopping mall. As engineering procurement construction (EPC) contractor, Megawide will undertake site development as well as civil, structural, architectural and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection works.

“We’re very excited to once again be working with 8990,” Megawide president Edgar Saavedra said in a press statement. “They have created a singular niche in the property sector through mass housing. Through this project, we are able to provide quality engineering and construction at an affordable price.”

This marks the second 8990 project awarded to Megawide. In February 2016, the two companies broke ground for the construction of Urban Deca Homes Manila, a 13-building development in Tondo with a total of 13,012 residential units.

In the design proposal, Megawide seeks to maximize the use of its proprietary construction technologies by using precast for segments that are normally built through conventional methods.

“Our Filipino team is now working with Japanese and German technical engineers to create a structurally resilient design. We will be maximizing the use of structural precast elements such as bearing and shear walls and slabs. This will be complimentary to our use of precast architectural components such as façade walls, unit partition walls, and stairs among others,” Saavedra said.

Saavedra explained that precast technology was highly advantageous for both design and construction.

“These precast elements are manufactured in a controlled environment that assures quality. It’s easily workable onsite and lessens the construction period because everything is assembled at the factory. We can ensure high quality and value for money for our clients,” he said.
