Media giant ABS-CBN Corp. said its television broadcast segment sustained its nationwide lead in viewer market share for July, citing data from Kantar Media.
Separately, GMA Network Inc. said it was ahead in urban ratings for the same month, using data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
In a statement, ABS-CBN said it had cornered a nationwide average audience share of 46 percent against GMA’s 34 percent.
The Lopez-led group said it had also maintained the top spot in primetime TV, coveted since this was when advertisers “put in a larger chunk of their investments to reach more consumers effectively.”
ABS-CBN said it had a 51- percent audience share in primetime, compared to 32 percent for GMA.
ABS-CBN noted it was also ahead in other areas such as Total Luzon (42 percent versus GMA’s 37 percent), in Total Visayas (55 percent versus GMA’s 28 percent); and in Total Mindanao (55 percent versus GMA’s 30 percent).
Likewise helping ratings was President Duterte’s State of the Nation Address last July 24. ABS-CBN said its coverage lured 16.6 percent of viewers, against GMA’s 7.8 percent.
For its part, GMA cited data using National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) for the entire month of July. During the month, it got 43.5 percent of the market, against ABS-CBN’s 37 percent.
It also cited a strong lead “from morning to evening block,” with an average people audience share of 50.3 percent; about 19.5 points higher than ABS-CBN.
GMA said its coverage of Mr. Duterte’s Sona drew more viewers at 37.4 percent of the market, against 34.3 percent for ABS-CBN.
