Korean firm tapped for P4.86-B bridge plan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is tapping Korean consultants for its P4.86-billion Panguil Bay Bridge Project in Northern Mindanao.

In a statement on Wednesday, the DPWH said Yooshin Engineering Corp., through a joint venture with Pyunhwa Engineering Consultants Ltd., and Kyong-Ho Engineering & Architect Co. Ltd., won the recent bid to provide consultancy services for the project.

The 3.5-km Panguil Bay bridge project plans to connect the city of Tangub in Misamis Occidental to the municipality of Tubod in Lanao del Norte.

The DPWH expects to complete the project by 2020.

Under the agreement, the Korean consultants will help the department in the conceptual design, preparation of bidding documents, design review, construction supervision, and post-construction supervision starting this month.

Funded under a loan agreement with the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund, the bridge project is expected to accelerate and sustain the economic growth in Mindanao by providing efficient and seamless transport of goods and services, the DPWH said.

The Panguil Bay Bridge Project is among the projects identified under the Duterte administration’s ambitious “build build build” infrastructure program.
