My father, Joseph Ang, is a visionary. He shares to us that in business, it’s important to be the pioneer in whatever you’re doing. No matter how small you are, you just have to start it and eventually it will grow.
His business mantras proved to be true and these made us aware of the humble beginnings of our construction business, which paved the way for his passion project, Worldbex Services International.
Among the most important lessons he shared was to value relationships, to be humble in times of victory, and be strong in times of defeat. He reminded us to work from the heart. It has always been his belief that everything that comes from the heart will always be positive.
Going on business trips with him, I learned that he is truly a man for others. He never fails to check on everyone in the office and at home. With my dad’s dedication to his work, I saw how his employees were like his extended family and how the office was his second home.
Growing up, my dad would always surprise us with a pasalubong and we’d eat it together. The discipline of eating together made our family bond stronger. It was our chance to be part of a roundtable of diverse opinions sharing the same love for one another.
On better days, my father would surprise us with pizza parties, and the six of us would bond over it in one queen-sized bed. On Sundays, he religiously goes to the market at 6 a.m. and cooks for us. He always says, “I’m doing this for you. This is for you.”
The thought of giving his only rest day to the family proves how much of a father he is—selfless, thoughtful, and loving. My father always reminded us to put the family first in everything that we do.
He always told us stories of how much of a spoiled brat he was as a kid. But that all changed when his father died and he had to strive hard to get to where he is now.
