Ayala’s KTM bike production facility opens
Ayala-led Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for European motorcycle giant KTM in its complex in Laguna Technopark.
As such, domestic production of KTM motorcycles is now in full swing, IMI disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday.
At the start, the plant will employ about 50 people—consisting of 40 workers and 10 engineers and technicians—but the number will triple to 150 at full capacity.
Based on initial plans, about 20,000 KTM units will be produced yearly in IMI’s manufacturing hub in Laguna. Subsequently, some of these KTM bikes will be exported to China and neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
The manufacturing facility for KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing Inc. (KAMMI) was inaugurated on June 6.
“We are rooted in nation-building and we are here for the long haul,” Arthur Tan, group president and chief executive officer of AC Industrials who is concurrently vice chair of IMI, said during the factory opening.
