Witnessing from Globe and UnionBank are (L-R) Globe Citizenship Manager Rofil Magto, Globe Business Vice President for Enterprise Sales Dion Asencio, Globe Business Sales Manager Avierose Magtoto, UnionBank Head of General Services Elizabeth Tang, UnionBank Team Head of General Services- Items Processing Services Jessamine Martinez and UnionBank Sustainability Officer Abby Bonita.

Union Bank of the Philippines has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Globe Telecom on the adoption of Project 1 Phone (P1P) e-waste recycling program as it turned over 11,223.45 kilograms of various electronic waste coming from their Metro Manila main office and branches nationwide.

The contract signing and e-waste turnover was led by UnionBank’s First Vice President Montano Dimapilis. It was in response to the P1P campaign initiated by Globe Business among its corporate clients to encourage donations of individual and company e-waste such as non-working or damaged phones and tablets; mobile phone batteries, chargers, and accessories; printers, cartridges, and personal computers, among other electronic items.

The agreement involves a commitment from UnionBank to gather all e-waste from its main office, all UnionBank branches nationwide, and employees to be collected by Globe and sent to its accredited partner Total Environment Solutions Asset Material Management (TES-AMM) Philippines for proper recycling.  All proceeds will go to Globe Telecom´s advocacy to bring 21st-century learning to students and teachers by building ICT classrooms nationwide and providing proper training through its Global Filipino Schools program.

“This partnership with Globe is a testimony of UnionBank’s collaborative approach in its sustainability endeavors. The Bank believes that everyone has a role to play in sustainability — and by supporting recycling programs such as this, a sustainable lifestyle is made accessible to everyone,” said Dimapilis.

Dion Asencio, Globe Vice President for Enterprise Sales said: “Apart from adopting environmental sustainability efforts in our own organization, Globe Business is taking it a step further by making it possible for our enterprise customers to be involved in saving the environment integral to their corporate sustainability thrusts. That is why we are very thankful to UnionBank for the partnership opportunity through P1P.”

This is also in support of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 which calls for everyone to “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.”  Without proper e-waste disposal, junk electronic items usually end up in landfills where toxins are leeched into the soil and potable water and even released into the atmosphere, thereby, contributing to global warming.

Globe Business is leading the way in encouraging businesses to do their share in minimizing environmental impact of e-waste and countering its harmful effects on health through close collaboration with private corporations on the adoption of P1P.
