Say I do

/ 12:29 AM June 03, 2017

It is that time of the year again when we hear the church bells ring for the lovers in white. And in the Philippines, weddings are often celebrated in June. But before a couple gets to the altar and say their vows, they have to toil away for months of tedious planning for this momentous event.

Often at the center of the wedding checklist is the venue, as it sets the mood and motif of the occasion. Picking the right location, however can be tricky and challenging, so here are four of the most ideal wedding venues in the country today.

Manila Cathedral

Located within the walled city of Intramuros in Manila, the Manila Cathedral has been one of the popular venues among Filipino couples, including celebrities and high profile personalities, because of its rich history.

Also known as the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, this cathedral was initially made of nipa and bamboo. The present structure—the eighth and a post-war reconstruction designed by Arch. Fernando Ocampo—was constructed from 1954 to 1958.

But since it is one of the most popular wedding venues in the country, reservations should be made at least a year in advance.

Another popular church wedding venue is Caleruega, a spiritual retreat center built by the Dominicans in the coastal town of Nasugbu in Batangas, in honor of their patron known as the “Happy Friar.”

Its Transfiguration Chapel has become a favorite venue among couples because of its location. The brick chapel atop a hill is the highest point of the retreat center, offering a landscape view of the Batulao mountains and forests.

The chapel in itself is a picturesque venue as it is surrounded by pine trees, terraced gardens and koi ponds.

Sonya’s Garden

A garden wedding has been a popular theme in weddings and Sonya’s Garden in Alfonso, Cavite gives the couples and their guests just that.

Another venue that offers a tranquil setting, Sonya’s Garden remains a popular choice among couples looking for a secluded location for their special day.

The flower laden garden destination holds weddings at its “sunflower” pavilion, which is dotted by sunflowers and ferns. The venue can accommodate up to 400 guests, who can enjoy a simple yet healthy fare featuring the garden’s own salad greens and edible flowers.

Sonya’s Garden has a bed and breakfast for the guests’ overnight accommodation.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

For couples wanting a rustic mood for their wedding day, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan is the ideal venue for tying the knot. Old Filipino stone houses and mansions built from 18th century pieces flown in from different parts of the Philippines serve as backdrop, while cobblestoned streets become the runway to the altar.

The location, with its panoramic view of the mountains, rice fields, and river that flows out to the sea, is indeed one of the best wedding getaway destinations in the country.
