Alsons’ new power plants going online by 2019

Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. (ACR) yesterday said its affiliates were on track to bring online part of a $600-million coal-fired power plant by 2019 as well as break ground for two other projects, all in Mindanao.

ACR was referring to the second 105-megaWatt generator of Sarangani Energy Corp.’s (SEC) 210-MW facility in Maasim, Sarangani.

The company was likewise referring to a 15-MW Siguil River hydro plant — also in Maasim — and a 105-MW coal-fired plant in Talisayan, Zamboanga City.

Work on Section 2 of the 210-MW SEC plant started last January and this second generator is expected to start commercial operations in the first semester of 2019, to serve three million residents of South Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Cagayan de Oro City, and other key areas of Mindanao.

SEC’s Section, which came online in April 2016, is providing electricity to the same population size in the provinces of Sarangani, Compostela Valley, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur; the cities of General Santos, Iligan, Butuan; and other major population centers of Mindanao.
