Jesus needs us

The Gospel narrative about Jesus asking a Samaritan woman for a drink triggers in my mind a question whether God needs anything that He should ask a creature for that thing. Jesus, whom I believe to be the Son of God, is almighty, perfect, and totally complete that He cannot and would not lack anything. Yet, in His mission to save the human person from eternal death and punishment, He needs the consent and the decision of the human being who has been created with the gift of freedom. In fact, it is believed that the first human persons created by God, chose to do the bidding of the Evil One and disobeyed the will of the Creator. Because of that sin, all the descendants of the first humans suffer the effects of choice against God. For any human person to be restored to the original state of friendship and union with God, in peace and happiness with Him, he must give his consent to Jesus, who became human so that we humans will go back to our divine status. It is us, humans, who need Jesus. But for Jesus to save us, he needs our consent. He needs our total and complete surrender to Him.

Our choice and consent for Jesus has been done at the moment of our Baptism in His faith and His Church. This decision, however, needs to be done every moment of our life through every action we do here on earth. Whatever work we do then should be done as our loving choice for Jesus, as our total worship or surrender to His saving power. In this way, we understand why Jesus needs us, so He can transform our works and actions into saving graces for our salvation.
