The Internet has quickly progressed into a learning playground for students. In this technological era, classroom walls are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Though there is immense access to information, the country has yet to fully integrate technology to local education. Globe Telecom together with De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is taking measures to empower education through virtual learning with the launch of BigSky.

BigSky Benilde is De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde’s versatile, future-focused, cloud-based integrated learning platform (ILP). It is an initiative to create an innovative and inclusive virtual learning space. Globe made its participation in the initiative by providing the school with Brightspace, a learning management system (LMS) that enables a personalized approach to education. With BigSky powered by Brightspace, BigSky Benilde aims to provide Benildeans access to research-driven and pedagogically sound learning anytime, anywhere.

“BigSky’s launch marked the beginning of local education taking on a global perspective with technological tools. It’s about time the PH education sector takes a step further to keep up with the flood of information coming from digital gateways. It’s our company’s purpose to contribute to a greater nation with quality education solutions,” mentioned Globe Chief Commercial Officer Albert de Larrazabal.

With Brightspace, Globe hopes to fill in the gap between technology and education and encourage creativity, collaboration, and a sense of community in schools. The tool offers promising features that enable teachers to curate, distribute and manage course materials efficiently and lets them evaluate individual student performance through real-time analytics. In addition to these, Brightspace also allows students to access digital content and other learning tools using their personal devices and to integrate an ecosystem of applications like emails, calendars, social media, and Google apps for better class participation.

Brightspace was created by D2L—a partner of Globe—to transform the learning and teaching experience by supplying a digital     platform that connects students and teachers and nurtures improved performance on both ends.
