Telus taps DLSU for program

/ 09:56 PM September 29, 2011

Business process outsourcing firm Telus International Philippines has partnered with De La Salle University for a program that will allow its employees to either finish their undergraduate studies or pursue post-graduate degrees even while working.

The partnership is in support of the BPO service provider’s Telus International University (TIU) initiative, which also has the University of Asia and the Pacific as another partner. The first batch of TIU beneficiary-employees started classes on March 2.

Under the TIU, Telus Philippines employees can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from DLSU and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities degree from UA&P.

“We have been working with DLSU since the start of TIU and we are proud that our partnership with DLSU has been formalized. We know that if our members receive a La Sallian education, they can stand out from the rest. They will grow personally and professionally and will be ready for new opportunities,” Telus Philippines president Javier Infante said in a statement.

While Telus Philippines would not shoulder school fees in their entirety, employees would enjoy significantly reduced rates for both tuition and books under the TIU program.

They would also be provided with computers and other learning facilities in the workplace. Some rooms in Telus Philippines’ sites also served as classrooms. The BPO firm’s Market! Market! facility likewise contained a library that employees could use.

“At Telus, we support the life-long learning of our team members. TIU is one of the ways we promote our company’s culture of learning. Our goal is to provide assistance to team members who were unable to finish their undergraduate degrees. With the help of schools like DLSU, we are making that goal achievable,” Infante said.—Abigail L. Ho
