My room at the Luna Gardens, Rockwell Center was designed by my older sister who’s an interior designer because I wanted it to have the look that it was professionally designed and yet have the feel of my personal style.
My favorite color is purple, which is obvious in the color palette I chose for my room. I’m lucky enough that my sister, whom I share a room with, gives in to what I want most of the time.
However, we like to change things up a bit from time to time by adding small accessories such as frames and wall decor.
I come from a big but close-knit family and this is also reflected in my room. Our corkboard and walls are full of photos of our family travels.
My inspiration are those quaint little apartments in Europe, which evoke an old world charm but infused with up-to-date functionality. In a nutshell: contemporary, shabby and chic.
Tips:
- Accent colors. Keep big pieces and general wall areas with neutral colors. And add a splash of color through wallpaper and decor.
- Add personal style. Even when you hire professionals to design your space, don’t lose your personality by having them set it up like a showroom. Add little knick-knacks from your travels and your space will truly reflect yourself.
