With the impact of climate change on sprawling urban areas, construction solutions have had to adapt in order to address such issues as flooding and overheating.

CEMEX, a global building materials company, recognizes the need for specialized construction solutions that address these issues, as well as the need for faster and reliable construction in pavements, housing, and other structures.

Drawing from more than 100 years of experience, CEMEX has developed and introduced innovative solutions through its cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and admixtures product offerings. The Company’s solutions include:

1. Pervia is a ready-mix concrete designed to build permeable and fast water draining concrete structures. Pervia has connected pores which allows water to pass through easily making it an ideal solution for roads prone to flooding. It can also be used in pavements, parking lots, and housing developments.

CEMEX’s Housing Manager explains the properties of Pervia as an aid to flood mitigation because of its permeability ensuring faster water drainage.

2. Insularis provides insulation for structures especially during the summer months. Compared to conventional concrete which absorbs heat, Insularis works to insulate walls, helping to maintain ideal temperatures inside structures. Placed as roof coatings, floors or slabs, city dwellers spend less on air-conditioning thereby saving on power bills.

Exhibit-goers experience first-hand the difference in temperatures between panels made with CEMEX’s Insularis and conventional concrete. The thermal properties of Insularis keep surfaces cool making them best for use in structures built in tropical countries like the Philippines.

A sunken handprint invites guests to experience CEMEX’s Insularis.

3. Durable Concrete extends the useful life of structures built with it. Advances in admixture technology make durable concrete watertight, preventing water from reaching rebars, minimizing the risk of corrosion, and prolonging the life of a building.

Highlighted at CEMEX’s exhibit were its specialized concrete solutions which included Pervia, Insularis, and Durable Concrete. While CEMEX’s Pervia aids in flood mitigation, Durable Concrete helps in extending the useful life of a structure built with it.

These innovations were showcased at the PhilConstruct Manila held at the SMX Convention Center from November 10 to 13. The booth drew close to 4,000 exhibit-goers over the 4-day event, sparking interest from construction industry professionals.

With these innovative products, CEMEX paves the way to building a better future. Not only will smarter cities benefit this generation, it will bring about better city dwelling conditions to future generations. ADVT
