The communicator
This is my 11th year in the public relations industry. What I have learned as a broadcast journalist for seven years and the connections that I have built during that time have helped me in my craft as a communicator. I’ve worked in a public relations firm for seven years during which I handled more than 40 brands. The opportunity came in 2012 to join Megaworld, my first venture into the mainstream real estate business.
I started the company’s public relations group with only two people in the team and we have eventually grown to 12 in three years’ time.
The turning point of our group’s success was in summer this year when we got our first international award—GOLD for Best Communications Team at The Global Good Governance Awards 2016 in Bali, Indonesia. In just a short span of time, our group was able to harvest 15 communication and public relations awards. I am always grateful for the hardwork and creativity of each member of our team as well as the support of Megaworld management led by our chairman, Dr. Andrew L. Tan and our chief operating officer, Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso.
Representing Megaworld in the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), I was elected vice president-external this year and I had the opportunity to chair this year’s Public Relations Congress held in September. This has been my way of giving back to the industry where I have been serving for more than a decade.
My work in Megaworld has allowed me to be more hardworking and passionate about my craft. The real estate industry is such a highly competitive field, and it takes a lot of creativity and imagination to be always on top of the game. Other property brands are just as aggressive and noisy, and so the challenge for me is how to make the Megaworld brand even noisier.
What motivates me is the fact that I love what I do. But most importantly, what keeps me going is the fact that I love the company I’m working for.
