The torchbearer

villar1The greatest lesson I’ve learned from my Dad is that there is really no easy task. In everything that you do, you need to work hard for it, be persistent and never give up. In every hardship or challenge that you face, you must be able to learn from it, pick yourself up, then start all over again.

My dad would always tell us to keep in mind that although “numbers count,” the passion and devotion equally matter. I remember how he would always remind us how important it is for us siblings to really love and appreciate what we do. As such, in every endeavor that we undertake, we make it a point to allow it to become a part of ourselves and make sure that there’s much passion as we do it because this will encourage us to not give up no matter how challenging it may be.

The three of us (me and my siblings), we try as much as we can to follow the footsteps of our dad, and while it can be challenging at times because you have such big shoes to fill and a great example to follow, we still try our best. While it may seem impossible to be exactly like them or to be as great as my mom and dad, we are still thankful that we have them as our mentors and inspiration.

Yes, it’s a privilege to be born to such great parents because without them, I would not be able to do and enjoy the things that I have right now. My parents are such great mentors and we really learned a lot from them. I guess this is also the reason why in everything I do, I make it a point to give it my best, my all. I admire the discipline and work ethics that my parents espouse and I just want to be like them. I think success is achieved through hard work—so one must not quit and give up easily but instead persevere until he or she reaches her goals.
