McDonald’s coffee beans ‘responsibly sourced’

LOS ANGELES – McDonald’s reported that globally in 2015 about 37 percent of McCafe’s total coffee bean purchases were from Rainforest Alliance Certified™, Fair Trade USA or UTZ Certified farms, making its coffee responsibly sourced and environmentally sustainable.

McDonald’s coffee continues to be made with 100 percent Arabica beans, expertly roasted and freshly brewed every 30 minutes. All of McDonald’s espresso in the U.S. and Canada are Rainforest Alliance Certified™, making a “positive difference in the lives of coffee farmers as well.”

McDonald’s USA, McDonald’s Canada and their franchisees invested more than $6 million over 4.5 years in farmer technical assistance. Over 15,000 farmers were able to implement sustainable practices and raise their productivity, thanks to McCafé’s farming education programs.

McDonald’s launched its McCafé line-up in the U.S. in 2009, and the collection included McCafé’s signature blend coffee and quickly expanded to include iced coffees, espresso-based drinks, such as lattes and mochas, blended-ice beverages including smoothies and frappes, trickle thick shakes as well as limited-time seasonal offerings.
