Inquirer Academy offers digital media management workshop

Digital Media Management Inquirer Academy

Inquirer Academy is offering a workshop series in September and October for individuals interested in improving their writing skills and knowledge about digital media and video production.

Facilitated by editors and journalists of INQUIRER.net, the Digital Media Management Series will focus on (1) strategies in writing, (2) new forms of storytelling, (3) social media trends, and (4) creative video production.

The learning center, the newest member of the Inquirer Group of Companies, aims to encourage adults from different fields and industries to upgrade their skills and achieve professional growth.

FEATURED STORIES

The series also targets companies who want their employees to be updated in digital media and publishing trends.

Interested participants can choose which stand-alone workshop to enrol in.

For September 6 to 7, INQUIRER.net Editor in Chief John Nery will talk about “Strategies in Writing: How to Write Lean, Fast, and Viral.”

Nery, a Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist and book author, will share how effective writers engage readers offline and online. He will teach participants how clarity of presentation, power of emotion and strength of narrative can be achieved while writing for different kinds of audience.

Nery authored the book “Revolutionary Spirit: Jose Rizal in Southeast Asia” and won a Catholic Mass Media Award, a Jaime V. Ongpin citation, and a Louie R. Prieto Grand Prize for his work in investigative journalism.

“New Forms of Digital Media Storytelling: Connect and Engage with your Audience,” to be facilitated by INQUIRER.net Chief of Reporters Kristine Sabillo on September 20 to 21, will reveal lessons and tricks of mobile journalists who specialize in producing multimedia content.

The workshop is useful for anyone who wants to learn how to produce interactive content and professional-looking videos using their smartphone.

Building on her experience as a multimedia journalist formerly assigned to Malacañang, Sabillo has given numerous talks on digital and mobile journalism.

From October 4 to 5, Inquirer Academy will offer “Social Media Landscape: The Game of Trends” by NewsLab Lead Matikas Santos.

Santos, who spearheads INQUIRER.net’s innovation program, will teach participants how to effectively navigate and benefit from social media by creating and influencing trends.

Students will also learn how to create graphics and use interactive tools.

The last workshop, “Principles of Creative Video Production: How to Produce Interesting, Compelling and Viral Videos,” will be held on October 18 to 19.

To be facilitated by Glen John Labasug, INQUIRER.net’s production and broadcast head, the workshop will revolve around the basics of video production, from planning and writing to colour correction and picture editing.
