PLDT embraces Mindanao in digital pivot

PLDT Inc., the country’s biggest telecommunications provider, is set to finish major projects in Davao in line with its digital shift.

The projects are PLDT’s fourth cable landing station, an Innolab or innovation laboratory, and the PLDT Group’s eighth data center, a statement on Wednesday showed. These form part of PLDT’s programmed capital expenditures of P48 billion for the year.

“These projects will help fortify our network to carry and serve the rising data traffic from our subscribers, both in the enterprise and consumer spaces,”  PLDT executive vice president and ePLDT President and CEO Eric Alberto said in the statement.

The cable landing station in Davao will be operational by the end of the month. It will directly link PLDT’s network in Mindanao to all three existing international gateways in Nasugbu in Batangas, Bauang in La Union, and Daet in Camarines Norte.

“This will improve resiliency and latency of international data traffic going in and out of Mindanao,” the telco giant added.

This also connects Mindanao to PLDT’s international managed network that has points-of-presence in Hong Kong, Singapore, US and United Kingdom.
