Housing fair set to play part in nation-building

THE HOUSING fair will showcase several developments from some of the biggest names in the industry.

Vice President Leni Robredo during the 2016 International Conference on Urban Development told delegates that the government wants to address the 1.4 million housing backlog within six years.

“We will disrupt and innovate. We will enjoin the private sector to be our partners in providing not just houses, but decent and affordable communities where our people will find jobs, where their children can safely go to school, attend church, run around and play safely,” said Robredo who also chairs the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.

Vital role

As the country’s largest and leading housing, real estate, and condominium developers’ organization, the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA) believes the upcoming 3rd SHDA Housing Expo—to be held on Aug. 25 to 28 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City—could play a vital role in the Vice President’s promise.

“The 3rd SHDA Housing Expo offers a great opportunity for a number of our members, some of the biggest names in the industry, to showcase their projects—from condominiums to house and lots, or lots only—from which potential homebuyers can choose. At the same time, we have also invited some industry stakeholders so they could share their ideas,” said Jonathan Lu, SHDA national treasurer and this year’s chair of the housing fair committee.

Lu added: “By now, we all realize that quality housing is intertwined with nation-building in many ways, including its huge contribution to the country’s gross domestic product, in generating more jobs, in alleviating poverty and in bringing more of the population into the formal sector. This means housing providers such as the members of SHDA can also take the lead in tackling the problem.”
