MANUEL V. Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. is set to commence work today on a tollroad extension project for the Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) in Southern Metro Manila.
Metro Pacific unit Cavitex Infrastrcuture Corp. said it would start work on the C-5 South Link of the Cavitex, which would provide an alternative route to EDSA for motorists traveling south of the capital district.
The project is aimed at decongesting roads in traffic-strangled Metro Manila.
The groundbreaking covers the first phase of the C-5 South Link of the Cavitex, a 14-km tollroad formally known as the Manila Cavite Expressway. The first phase runs from C5 Road in Taguig towards Moonwalk and Merville villages in Sucat, Parañaque.
The Cavitex C5 South Link is targeted for completion in 2019, Cavitex Infrastructure president Jose Luigi Bautista said in a previous interview. Apart from decongesting Paranaque, it will likewise provide faster travel from Taguig, Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City and other northern areas of the capital district to Manila, Las Piñas, and Cavite province.
The first phase will cost about P2.5 billion and will take between 18 months to two years to complete. It will serve between 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles per day.
The company also wants to complete the C-5 South Link ahead of the 2020 completion of the 45-km Cavite Laguna Expressway, which another tollroad unit of Metro Pacific bagged in 2015. This will allow both tollroads to be integrated into a seamless network.
Metro Pacific, through Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., is the country’s biggest expressway operator.
