/ 12:02 AM May 05, 2016

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) ended its losing streak Wednesday, lifted by bargain hunting.

The PSEi closed up 0.5 percent, or 35.29 points, to 7,081.86 after reversing losses early in the session that saw it hover just above the key 7,000 level. The broader All-Shares index was up 0.19 percent to 4,205.88.

A total of 2.7 billion shares valued at P6.55 billion changed hands. Still, 116 companies declined against 61 gainers while another 53 companies closed unchanged.

It was also a mixed bag in terms of the performance of subsectors. Mining and oil fell 1.64 percent, followed by financials, down 0.12 percent, and services, down 0.03 percent. Miguel R. Camus
