Meralco inks power supply deals
Manila Electric Co. has secured 3,551 megawatts (MW) of electricity supply through various long-term agreements before the mandatory bidding for power supply deals.
Company spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said in a text message that Meralco filed on April 29 in the Energy Regulatory Commission an application for the approval of its power supply agreements with several companies.
Redondo Peninsula Energy Inc. (RPE), one of the suppliers, signed a deal for the supply of 225 MW. It intends to construct, own, operate, manage and maintain a 300-MW coal-fired power plant in Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Subic in Zambales.
RPE is a joint venture between Meralco unit Meralco PowerGen Corp. and Therma Luzon Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., and Taiwan Cogeneration International Corp.-Philippine Branch Office.
St. Raphael Power Generation Corp. signed a PSA with Meralco for the supply of up to 400 MW of power. It intends to construct, own, operate, manage and maintain two 350-MW coal-fired power generating facility in Calaca, Batangas. St. Raphael is a joint venture of MGen and Semirara Mining and Power Corp.
MGen’s Atimonan One Energy Inc. (A1E) signed a deal with Meralco for 1,200 MW of power. A1E intends to construct, own, operate, manage and maintain two 600-MW supercritical coal-fired power generating facility in Atimonan, Quezon.
Article continues after this advertisementCentral Luzon Premiere Power Corp. (CLPPC) signed an agreement to supply Meralco with up to 528 MW of power. It intends to construct, own and operate four 150-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power generating facility in Pagbilao, Quezon, which is scheduled to start operating “no later than 2021.” CLPPC is a subsidiary of San Miguel Corp.’s SMC Global Power Holdings Corp.
Article continues after this advertisementMariveles Power Generation Corp. (MPGC) signed a deal for up to 528 MW of power. It will construct, own and operate four 150-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power generating facility in Mariveles, Bataan. The facility is set to start operations no later than 2020. MPGC is a unit of SMC Global Power.
Panay Energy Development Corp. signed up for the supply of 7 MW of power. It owns and operates two 82-MW and a 150-MW coal-fired power generating facility in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo. PEDC is a subsidiary of Global Business Power Corp., where Meralco has a 22-percent stake.
Global Luzon Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of GBPC, signed a deal for 600-MW of power. It intends to construct, own, operate, manage and maintain two 335-MW coal-fired power generating facility in Brgy. Luna, La Union.
The total power capacity secured was 3,551MW, 81 percent of the 4,384MW capacity of the power stations being developed by the supplier-firms.
