Despite attempts to hack the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) website of late, these did not prosper with robust security features in place, Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. said Thursday.
Tetangco clarified that cyber-attacks had been limited to the BSP website, not its information technology (IT) infrastructure and systems.
The BSP website contains publicly available data; no sensitive information get posted on the site.
“In terms of cyber-security, there always are risks. What is important is that these risks are properly addressed by firewalls and other security features that have to be embedded in the IT systems,” Tetangco told reporters on the sidelines of the BPI Foundation’s Financial Inclusion Summit 2016.
“The BSP has issued the advice to BSP-supervised entities to make sure that they have robust security systems… You know, hacking or attempts, they always happen but what is important is these attempts should not be successful,” Tetangco added.

The BSP chief said their website has firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. “We continue to update the firewalls and the security features as we move along. It is a continuing effort.”
“Our website is up and running. We remain vigilant and continue to follow security protocols for its protection,” Tetangco later said in a text message to reporters.

To recall, the BSP website was hacked in September 2012 by an unidentified hacker calling itself “Anonymous Philippines,” which was protesting the then-recently enacted anti-cybercrime law. CDG
