50-MW Tarlac solar power plant goes online
PetroSolar Corp., owned by PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PetroGreen) and EEI Power Corp. (EEIPC), and Conergy, a leading German photovoltaic (PV) solution and service provider, have switched on their 50-megawatt (MW) Tarlac solar power project (TSPP) in Tarlac province.
Conergy said the TSPP was the second solar farm that Conergy had executed in Luzon and the company’s first with Petrosolar.
“We are proud to have been able to deliver this project in four and a half months, a record not only for our company but for solar farm execution in Southeast Asia in general. This result was made possible through Conergy’s extensive global and regional track record and the excellent working relationship with Petrosolar,” Conergy Asia & Pacific president Alexander Lenz said.
The TSPP energy facility covers 55 hectares of industrial land within the Central Technopark in Tarlac City.
It has a plant size of 550,003 square meters capable of producing 78,070 megawatt-hours per year and will provide clean energy to approximately 31,700 households, saving over 47,800 tons of carbon (CO2) emissions every year.
The solar farm’s electromechanical completion and successful testing and commissioning have also been validated by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy regulatory Commission (ERC).
Petrosolar and Conergy said the 50-MW TSPP was synchronized to the Luzon grid and started delivery of power at 4:10 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2016.
PetroSolar president Milagros V. Reyes declared, “We made the right choice in teaming up with Conergy for the Tarlac Solar Power Project. When we decided to go into solar energy and to form PetroSolar, we knew that we had to select the right partners for our vision to have a greener Philippines. We are optimistic that the project will be granted the Feed-In-Tariff for solar projects by the DOE and the ERC as we were able to complete this facility within the prescribed time frame and comply with all the technical and regulatory requirements.”
Tarlac is said to be highly favorable for PV development.
The TSPP is also expected to perform very well as it uses the same solar solutions Conergy has deployed in its other projects in the country.
To ensure the efficient operations and maintenance of the TSPP, Conergy is also providing technical and consultancy services to Petrosolar together with a local service contractor.
