Aside from real estate properties, artworks of different mediums are excellent options for investment.
Art always appreciates and the Art Fair Philippines 2016 has an expanded and exciting lineup for all art enthusiasts to explore new and old artists.
Ongoing until Sunday, this fourth edition fair promises to recognize its role as the world’s window to one of Asia’s fastest-growing contemporary art scenes. The premiere platform for exhibiting the best in Philippine contemporary art welcomes even more participants and a wider audience as it spreads out to another floor of The Link, the car-park facility in Ayala Center, Makati, at the heart of the country’s financial hub.
Founded in 2013, the fair was started by Lisa Periquet, Trickie Lopa and Dindin Araneta with just a few galleries. It has showcased the vibrant Filipino art scene in a transformed parking garage that for four days features selections from Metro Manila’s leading galleries. A wider roster of galleries from Southeast Asia, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan joins them.
To complement the gallery offerings, a curated section of solo presentations by critically and commercially successful artists are installed throughout the two levels of the main fair. A third level of the fair is devoted to its educational component, ArtFairPH/Talks, housing a lecture theater for daily talks on art history, the art market, and current practices in contemporary art. Art Fair Philippines teamed up with the Ateneo Art Gallery to bring these conversations to fair visitors.
Special exhibits
Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, the Brisbane-based Filipino husband and wife tandem with an impressive profile of participating in critically lauded art events around the globe, headlines the fair’s Special Exhibits. Also included in the lineup are Mark Justiniani, Martha Atienza, Nona Garcia, At Maculangan, Raffy Napay, Mac Valdezco and Pamela Yan Santos.
The 40 galleries participating in Art Fair Philippines 2016 are 1335 Mabini, Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea, Archivo 1984 Gallery, Arndt, Art Cube, Artesan Gallery + Studio, ArtInformal, Art Verite Gallery, Avellana Art Gallery, Blanc, Boston Art Gallery, Canvas, Edouard Malingue Gallery, Equator Art Projects, Finale Art File, Gajah Gallery, Galeria Cayon, Galleria Duemila, Galerie Michael Janssen, Galerie Stephanie, Galerie Anna, Gallery Kogure, Gallery Orange, J Studio, MO_Space, Nunu Fine Art, Pablo, Paseo Art Gallery, Pinto Art Gallery, Salcedo Private View, Secret Fresh, Silverlens, Taksu Gallery, The Crucible, The Drawing Room, Tin-Aw Art Gallery, Vinyl on Vinyl, West Gallery, Yavuz Gallery and YOD Gallery.
Extraordinary metal sculptor
Taking the art scene by storm once again is extraordinary metal sculptor Daniel dela Cruz with his show called “HiSONly.” With the Catholic religion taken from the Filipino devotees’ context as the artist’s main theme, the incredibly intricate art pieces capture different gestures and emotions that are totally powerful and moving. A must-see exhibit, Daniel’s craftsmanship and his deep faith are truly expressed in this unbelievable display.
Another favorite exhibition is the art installation of Mark Justiniani who is one of the Special Exhibitors of the fair. Infinity is fitting title to the series as it connotes innumerable and multifaceted encounters as visitors experience his installations. Using enclosed and layered screens, multidimensionality is cleverly created and is quite impressive.
With the local art scene getting bigger and brighter, it’s wonderful to visit Art Fair Philippines and discover young and emerging artists like Bryan Yabut, Josephine Turalba and Michelle Perez.
