CignalTV subscribers hit 1.18M
The pay-television arm of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) reported a boost in its subscriber count last year as it added more content.
In a statement on Thursday, PLDT said satellite television company CignalTV saw subscribers hit 1.18 million in 2015, up almost 40 percent year-on-year.
The unit added 330,00 subscribers during the period in what it described as the “aggressive deployment of its high-quality direct-to-home satellite service and enhanced content offerings.”
The company mainly competes with SkyCable, a unit of Lopez-led ABS-CBN Corp., although both players also cited the large growth potential in the pay television segment.
“In 2016, we will build the business further by offering more innovative program packages,” said Cignal outgoing president Oscar Enrico Reyes Jr.
In the same statement, incoming Cignal president Jane B. Basas said Cignal “will continue to lead the industry in both content diversification and best in class infrastructure given its links with PLDT.”
