Globe unit ties up with gaming firm

Globe Telecom announced a partnership with regional gaming company Asiasoft Corp. Public Co. Ltd. allowing its subscribers to use Globe’s mobile wallet platform to make in-game purchases.

Globe said in a statement that fully owned subsidiary G-Xchange Inc. (GXI) entered into a strategic partnership with Asiasoft, which is based in Thailand, on gaming services provisioning.

The partnership allows GCash, the mobile wallet of GXI, to be used as a payment method at Playpark game portal and mobile app checkouts via PlayMall, Asiasoft’s single wallet platform. This gives GCash customers an option to buy “cash items,” “lives,” “coins” or “gems” without the need for a credit card, Globe said.

Asiasoft has been working with its subsidiary Level Up!, the pioneer online game publisher in the Philippines that published legendary games such as Ragnarok Online and Cabal Online.  It likewise claims a “dominating market share” in the Southeast Asia region covering Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines for mobile and PC games.

“GCash aims to further establish its position as the preferred payment option in the mobile and digital space.  Thus, we are excited to explore marketing collaborations with Asiasoft to grow gaming-related transactions and bring GCash at the forefront of eCommerce,” said Xavier Marzan, president and CEO of GXI.

“At the same time, we want to enhance existing Globe customer payment services and provide them with a full digital lifestyle,” he added.

Globe said the collaboration was part of the memorandum of understanding with Asiasoft which Globe and GXI signed together with other members of the Singtel Group such as Singapore Telecommunications  Limited (Singtel-Singapore), Advanced Info Service Public Co. Ltd. (AIS-Thailand),  and PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel-Indonesia). Singtel is a major shareholder of Globe.
