CONSIDERED as the country’s premier design and lifestyle event, Manila FAME is a biannual showcase of craftsmanship, design innovation and artisanship in Philippine products. The latest exhibition held at the SMX Convention at SM MOA featured the most outstanding furniture and home furnishings, holiday gifts and décor, and fashion accessories crafted locally for the global market.
For more than 30 years, Manila FAME has promoted Philippine manufacturers and producers to help them penetrate the global market scene. The Department of Trade and Industry, through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, is the organizing body that keeps Manila FAME as the premier trade show in the Asia-Pacific. Additionally, it is the only trade event in the country that is approved by Union des Foires Internationales or The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.
At the last exhibition, several booths had electrifying façades and design-centric displays. World-renowned designer Kenneth Cobonpue exhibited his iconic, as well as brand-new, designs in a centrally located booth. Open from all sides, the colorful and embellished pieces were in full view. A large sculpture suspended overhead that anchored the space was an astonishing focal point.
Another unique façade was the booth of Ito Kish. Wrapped in just (slightly crushed) brown paper, the simple material was an unexpected choice that made a huge statement. Ito’s architecture-inspired bone china vases were modeled after elements of the Art Deco Manila Metropolitan Theater that was built in 1931.
New to Manila FAME this year is Lady Scott Jones, a finely detailed furniture line that has rustic yet comfortable touches. Founded by sisters-in-law Maricar Lopez-Tiangco and Pam Gonzales-Lopez, Lady Scott Jones embodies the duo’s eagerness to represent their own enthusiasm, curiosity and ingenuity driven by a love for design and culture. In stylish and elegant silhouettes meticulously crafted from top-notch and well built materials made to last, Lady Scott Jones delivers pieces both beautiful and relatable, perfect for those who share the same zest for style and function.
After the fair, Lady Scott Jones quickly worked on its new collection of well-crafted pieces that are uniquely designed and created. The company launches its newest line that is inspired by the different elements of nature during the autumn season.
Experience the comforting allure of fall in Manila through Lady Scott Jones’ latest collection, Automne, inspired by the romantic poetry of nature interpreted with French finesse and sophistication. The pieces feature hearty accents, subtle hues and detail-oriented craftsmanship, adding shabby-chic and rustic touches to modern and inventive forms. Configured with exquisite contours and skillful precision are statement pieces made from contrasting layers of classic woods and practical hints of metal in natural, homely finishes that create a unique look both modern and timeless. Not to be missed are the attractive decorative lighting pieces that are both handy and ornate. Sumptuous fabrics and smooth upholstery make excellent seating options that come in subtle, vintage-inspired colors, further enhanced by the use of dainty patterns and soft and smooth textures. Whether it is an armchair or a full sofa, each piece is thoughtfully designed with the same master workmanship to create a comfortable and aesthetically distinct selection, further enhanced by artistic shapes and curves.
