ABS-CBN, GMA Network claim ratings lead in Oct.

RIVALS ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. both claimed the lead in television ratings in October, citing data from their respective research companies.

Lopez-led ABS-CBN said in a statement that it was the most watched TV network in the country with an average national audience share of 42 percent against GMA’s 38 percent rating.

ABS-CBN cited data from Kantar Media.

For the primetime slots, ABS-CBN claimed a 50 percent average audience share nationwide, or a 19-point-lead over GMA 7’s 31 percent.

“The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively,” ABS-CBN said.

On the other hand, GMA, which uses data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, said it extended its lead over ABS-CBN in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) with a 39 percent total day household audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 33.7 percent, as well as TV5’s 8.8 percent.

As in previous months, GMA cited the success of Eat Bulaga and the kalyeserye segment AlDub.

It said Eat Bulaga continued to break records “as it emerged as the most watched program in Urban Luzon and Manila.”

GMA added that its lead increased over ABS-CBN in the morning block with 37.1 percent, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 30.2 percent by 6.9 points.

GMA also reinforced its solid performance in the afternoon block with 47.8 percent, 19.7 points higher than ABS-CBN’s 28.1 percent.

GMA rated higher than TV5 across all day parts in NUTAM.

“The Kapuso Network also continued to rule over competition across all day parts in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 77 percent and 59 percent of all urban TV households in the country, with double-digit margins in the morning and afternoon blocks,” the statement showed.
