A South Korean firm is investing P450 million in hotel and wellness facilities within the Clark Freeport in Pampanga, a move that will further boost tourism in the area.
In a statement, Clark Development Corp. (CDC) president Arthur P. Tugade disclosed that Somang Global Clark Corp. (SGCC) recently held groundbreaking ceremonies to jumpstart the construction of seven Healing Hotel and Spa facilities at the freeport.
The ceremonies were led by SGCC president and CEO Ho Kyeng Lee and Tugade, who were accompanied by, among others, Rep. Joseller M. Guiao and SGCC chair Suk Chang Kang.
SGCC’s investments cover the recreational and wellness facilities on the leased area. The company also committed to employ about 200 workers in the next five years.
CDC and SGCC signed the 25-year lease agreement on a 1.7-hectare property in May this year.
To complement the operation of the wellness center, SGCC will also set up a water health spa, restaurants, hotel, villas and other lodging facilities.
The hotel and spa facilities are expected to start operations by 2017.
Tugade expressed optimism that this project would bring about more tourism-related investments, noting that this was “the beginning of beautiful things (to happen in Clark).”
SGCC started in 1992 as a manufacturer of cosmetics in Korea but later expanded to real estate, developing hotels, supermarkets, and renting out residential and commercial buildings in South Korea.
