SAN FRANCISCO — Hawaii’s Filipino American owned plate lunch giant, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, opened its first takeout restaurant in the Philippines on September 21, in a mall near Manila’s Edsa Shangri-La Manila hotel, and will open another one in November.

In the United States, L&L’s “third biggest demographic are Filipinos — the first are kamaaina who have lived in Hawaii for some time and are aware of the L&L brand, and the second are Pacific Islanders,” Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Bryan Andaya told Pacific Business News.

L&L is a popular Hawaiian barbecue outlet in Hawaii and the mainland.

The first Philippine outlet employs nearly 20 people and is slightly smaller than many of the company’s U.S. locations. A second franchised location by November in Manila’s SM Megamall, the largest shopping mall in the island country.
