Outstanding IOUs total P3.855T by end-Aug

The value of outstanding debt papers issued by the national government slightly declined to P3.855 trillion at the end of August as more Treasury bonds matured that month, latest government data showed.

The end-August figure was lower than the P3.858 trillion recorded a month ago.

Treasury bonds composed the bulk of outstanding IOUs at the end of the first eight months, with a face value totaling P3.573 trillion, down from P3.580 trillion at end-July.

Outstanding Treasury bills as of end-August, meanwhile, amounted P282.5 million, up from P278.1 million in the previous month.

Of the outstanding T-bills, P89 billion was from the auction of 91-day debt papers; P92.8 billion from 182-day IOUs; and P100.7 billion from 364-day T-bills.

In August, the Bureau of the Treasury issued P20-billion worth of T-bills at rates that fell across the board.
