Tan hosts rare whisky dinner to remember

Corporate rivalries were set aside one fine evening in July when Emperador Inc. chair Andrew L. Tan hosted an exclusive whisky dinner at the six-star Maxims Hotel, Resorts World Manila, Newport City.

Around 50 of the biggest names in Philippine business were personally invited by Tan and his son, Kevin, to the exclusive event.

Tan shared a table with Ayala Corp.’s Fernando Zobel de Ayala, SM’s Hans Sy and Harley Sy, JG Summit’s Lance Gokongwei, Metrobank’s Alfred Ty, Steniel chair Perry Pe, Pagcor chair Cristino Naguiat Jr. and Secretary Rene Almendras.

The whisky dinner held at Impressions, the home of The Dalmore, was led by The Dalmore Master Distiller Richard Paterson, who flew all the way from Scotland for this special event with Manila’s who’s who.

The five-course dinner was prepared by Executive Chef Cyrille Soenen, with the food paired with the following The Dalmore expressions: The Dalmore 15, The Dalmore King Alexander III, The Dalmore 25 and The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve.

The leaders of the corporate scene also shared two bottles of The Dalmore Constellation 1973, a rare drink aged for 38 years in American oak barrels.

The Dalmore is a contemporary British luxury brand, rooted in heritage. It has few peers when it comes to prominence and quality.

Last year, a bottle of The Dalmore Brilliance, a one-of-a-kind 1926 single malt whisky, set a world record when it sold for nearly P15 million during a liquor sale at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It is considered the highest value sale ever of an individual liquor.

Last year, Emperador Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Emperador UK Limited, fully acquired Whyte & Mackay Group Limited and its subsidiaries. Whyte & Mackay is the world’s fifth largest maker of Scotch whisky with a history of more than 160 years. It owns some of the most iconic Scotch brands in the industry, including The Dalmore.

Whyte & Mackay also holds one of the world’s largest aged whisky inventories. The group has a production capacity of 50 million liters of alcohol a year with five distilleries and one bottling plant in Scotland. Whyte & Mackay produces a wide range of products sold in more than 50 countries, mainly in Europe and North America. It also has a strong presence in the global travel retail space.
